Las Calas is a large 19th century country house dating back from around 1800. The building has been lovingly restored to its original quality, and was opened as a luxury country Boutique Hotel back in 1999.
Las Calas is known as "The House of Senses", because of its traditional charm, gentle mix of chic contemporary design, plus added ethnic touches. From the lattices of doors and windows, to the rotunditity of African art within the numerous sculptures around the living areas, there is a sheer feeling of elegance throughout.
Nestled high in the heart of Gran Canarias rugged mountains is the tiny hamlet of La Lechuza, and here you will find this cosy chic country Inn. Hotel Las Calas is Situated within a forest, a natural environment which contains magnificent gardens. This is a peacful and ideal place to totally relax.
The rooms at Las Calas have been built around a verdant central garden, and each has been individually designed & fitted with traditional Canarian style furnishings and accessorized with an African flair including - white washed walls,dark wood trim, ceramic wall plates, and textile hangings.
The proud owner of this stylish holiday haven, Magui, has added a few of her own personal treasures around the rooms to offer a feeling of being at home. The all important personal touch is ever present throughout the building.
The philosophy at Las Calas is to Rediscover Sensations and that applies most specifically to the sense of taste! The Canarian/Mediterranean cuisine is based on farm fresh rather than store-bought foods. Vegetables & potatoes as well as certain fruits including plumbs, oranges and apples are grown in the gardens. Eggs, milk, and other organic ingredients for healthy eating are purchased from the local hamlets farmers.

Each rooms contains a TV (satelite channels), central heating for the cooler months, minibar, safe, bathrobes and a hairdyer. General utilities within the hotel include a restaurant, lounge area with open fire place, large gardens and a shared swimming pool.
Location
Around the La Vega de Mateo area you will find two protected natural resorts - Camaretas and Hoya De Gamonal. Los Pozos De Nieves is the highest part of the island and the trail 'La Mina' with its water mills should also be mentioned. Along the la Mina trail thanks to the uninterrupted supplies of water, the huge Laurel forest stands tall.
Every weekend there is a local produce market held in the nearby village which should not be missed. Other attractions include the Molino De Gofio, and the ethnografic museum (Cho Limones) where visitors can view examples machinery used for agriculture in years gone by.
