Tirijana Ravine - A brilliant route to follow either by car or with a bicycle. 20KM
The Tirajana ravine is located within the southeast of Gran Canaria, and leads from the centre top of the island to the coast. The highest part is called...............
La Caldera de Tirajana and is surrounded by steep mountains. The lower much flatter section, ends by the coast at Juan Grande. The Tirajana ravine can be approached by car or bicycle through the east side of the island. It is suggested to take the GC-500 road which begins in Vecindario, a commercial city within the southeast of Gran Canaria.

Other places to look out for on your journey along the ravine are Sardina del Sur, Los Cuchillos (with magnificent views!), El Guriete, the La Sorruda viewpoint. La Fortaleza de Ansite - an archaeological site where the last Island aboriginals lived until they were conquered in 1483.
Ingenio de Santa Lucia which must not be missed. Slightly further along from the village, take in the beautiful scenery of the Palm and Olive tree oasis. Back on the main road to Santa Lucia there is an ideal chance to stop for lunch and take a leisurely stroll around the village past the gardens, church and visit the Museo De La Fortaleza De How.

The botanical gardens were founded by the late scientist, Enric Sventenius. The unique jardin was developed on the site of a ravine and has a vast selection of flora and fauna from all over the Canary Islands. Palm trees, cacti, tabaibales & Cardonales (giant cacti) and many more beautiful varieties of vegetation. The Jardin Canario is internationally renowned for the research which is carried out on endemic plants from all over the Canary Islands, together with continued support for the protection and distribution of all.
This is an extremely pleasant and peaceful place to visit and admission is free.

Roque Nublo
Translated meaning - rock clouded - is situated near to the village centre of Tejeda, this imposing mountain is a must see during a visit to Gran Canaria. The spanish writer Miguel De Unamuno once described this incredible crater as a storm turned to stone. Local farmers work in the surrounding areas with cattle which is in keeping with the natural environment, this is an awe inspiring rough mountainous area with fantastic pinewoods and splendid views.
