Whilst enjoying an active adventure such as surfing is a good thing, it is vitally important to remember respect for your surroundings, the local community, and for your own wellbeing.
Lanzarote is home to some of the hottest surf spots in the Canary Islands, often referred to as the Hawaii of Europe, this is brilliant island to enjoy good waves in year round warm waters. Lanzarote is an ideal location for beginners who wish to try an active adventure, and equally ideal for the more experienced surf enthusiast.
The prime surf season is during the winter, October through until the end of March, but if you are a keen surfer you will be likely to find good waves during most times of the year.

Not only is this a great traditional fishing village area for visitors who enjoy being 'off the beaten track', but it is also a fantastic area to surf and kite surf, with a good variety of equipment hire shops and schools for beginners.
San Juan Ideal for experienced level surfers.
Famara Beach Perfect for beginners and is a popular area for lessons to get you started. Our children are all members of the centre point surf group which is run by Dennis Smith, a local surf instructor with over 40 years of experience.
Our view: Whether you are a keen surfer or just starting out, this beach offers a good compromise seeing as everybody can find a way to entertain themselves along this stretch. With the growing trend for kite surfing in this area too.
It is important to remember there are
extremely strong currents in Famara.
There are a few good breaks in the Haria region of Lanzarote from Orzola through to Arrieta. Our suggestions are for the main medium level - beginners waves which can easily be reached by car.
Costa De Haria: Playa de Orzola, a good beach break for beginners.
Playa La Garita (Arrieta) Good for beginners pretty much all year through, this is a slow beach break from right to left with a softer wave power.
Our view: Great for beginners, and for families who have non surfers in their travelling group. The beach itself is one of the best in this area, with the added bonus of a fantastic food bar, children’s park, outdoor mini gym, public showers & W.C facility, plus the all important skateboard ramps..
There are very few hazards here, and a sandy bottom for a softer beginners style landing pad.
