Chic Suggestions - Tenerife

Often when we think of Tenerife, we think of the southern areas first, beaches, lively beach resorts, water parks, adventure parks but why limit yourself to this area alone! There are some of the most spectacular, natural and beautiful places to visit all over the island.

The most famous attraction in Tenerife is of course Mount Teide. It is far from cliche to say that the Parque Nacional de las Cañadas is absolutely not to be missed.

This beautiful area was declared a national park in 1954 and includes a volcanic crater which is a gigantic 48km in circumference. From this crater Mount Teide rises at a staggering 3.718 meters which makes this the highest mountain in the whole of Spain.

The national park lies 2000 meters above sea level and in the winter it can be very cold, often with snow fall and high winds, so if you are visiting during the winter months - be prepared and take sensible warm clothing and footwear. During the summer months this is an arid area with temperatures sometimes reaching up to 40C.

Access to the now extinct volcanoe is by cable car, and once you reach the top you will definately want to use your camera! On a clear day visitors will be able to enjoy breathtaking views to Gran Canaria, la Palma, La Gomera and El Hierro.

Along the journey up to the national park there are cosy picnic areas within the forests (around every 200-300 yards.) We highly recommend that visitors take a lunch and enjoy the surroundings with a stop either on the way to or from the park area, to make the most of a brilliant day out.
